In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re sharing a few 2017 breast cancer statistics with our readers. Since 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer in the course of her lifetime, it’s crucial to raise awareness in our community. The National Cancer Institute reports that the five-year survival rate is nearly 90% if the disease is detected in an early stage.
Not all of the statistics are negative; there is a ray of hope: According to breastcancer.org, incidence rates in the U.S. began decreasing in the year 2000 and have continued to decrease since then. This is likely due to advances in treatment, earlier detection, and increased awareness.
Take steps to recognize the signs – it could save your (or a loved one’s) life!
